North Korea's 'provocative' actions 'can't continue' - US

The salvo of tough talking on North Korea continues as the US Vice President lands just a few miles from the country's border. The US and UK have hit out at North Korea following its failed missile launch, calling the regime's behaviour "provocative" and "belligerent". The medium-range missile "blew up almost immediately" following the launch early on Sunday, according to US military. It comes as US Vice President Mike Pence arrived at the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), which divides the secretive state from South Korea. He flew into Camp Bonifas - a UN post just a few hundred metres from the 2.5-mile wide DMZ. He is due to meet military leaders and US troops stationed there as part of a 10-day Asian tour. US national security adviser Lieutenant General HR McMaster said the rogue state's actions "just can't continue". This latest missile test just fits into a pattern of provocative, destabilising, and threatening behaviou...

Erdogan tells opponents 'it's too late now' after Turkey referendum win

The president's grip on power looks set to tighten after a narrow win - but the opposition wants a recount over "illegal acts". Turkey's president Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned opponents not to "belittle" his narrow victory in a referendum that will grant him sweeping new powers. Speaking to reporters in Istanbul, he said results showed a winning margin of 1.3 million votes in what he described as a "historic decision". Striking a conciliatory tone following the bitter contest, Mr Erdogan called on foreign powers to respect the outcome - which will mean 18 constitutional changes - as he thanked the Turkish people. He said: "April 16 is the victory of all who said yes or no, of the whole 80 million, of the whole of Turkey of 780,000 square kilometres. "We would like other countries and institutions to show respect to the decision of the nation." But as he addressed thousands of flag-waving supporters in Istanbul a sh...

Air China suspends flights to North Korea as fears of war with US escalate

China’s flag carrier, Air China, will no longer fly to Pyongyang as fears of a war between North Korea and the US rise. North Korea’s northern neighbour is it’s closest ally and the last flight to Beijing arrived Friday. It comes as major players have condemned the sabre-rattling between Donald Trump and North Korea’s Kim Jong-un. The hermit nation is planning celebration for Supreme Leader Kim Il-sung, despite having died in 1994, this Sunday. Many observers have linked these celebrations with a possible nuclear weapons test. China has repeatedly condemned North Korea’s nuclear weapons programme. However the proximity, politically and geographically, means that many suspect China would have advance warning of a nuclear weapons’ test. He has said if China does not reign their ally’s neighbour in he will involve America and has recently sent a U.S. aircraft carrier group to the region. Yet war would bring ‘no winners’ according to Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi. ...

North Korean soldiers are facing the death penalty for spreading a very unwise joke about Kim Jong-un.  Soldiers from the second army corps were arrested after they mocked the North Korean leader and compared him to a mentally ill patient, according to Radio Free Asia. A source told the channel: ‘News of cadres of the second army corps slandering Kim Jong-un reached all the way to the People’s Army’s General Political Bureau, and the arrested cadres are to be severely punished.’ It comes as Kim Jong-un threatened a nuclear attack during the Day of the Sun parades in the country. North Korea is accusing the US of provoking his nation after Trump sent the USS Carl Vinson to the Korean peninsula. Late last night, the secretive state launched what was considered to be one of their new ‘game-changer’ intercontinental ballistic missiles in Singpo, where North Korea’s biggest submarine base is located. However, it was an embarrassing failure as the ‘ballisti...

Voters cast ballots in historic referendum on presidential powers - Turkey

People in Turkey have started voting on the future of the country, with polling stations opening for a historic referendum. Around 51 million Turkish people are eligible to take part in a historic referendum on whether to give sweeping new powers to their president. The polls show it is a very tight race with the yes and no campaigns neck and neck. Polling stations have opened for Sunday's referendum, which is likely to be decided by people who will not make up their minds until they reach the ballot box. The country's state of emergency and a wave of terror attacks have taken their toll on the economy and given President Recep Tayyip Erdogan a reason to say he needs greater powers to keep the country safe. Accountant Ali Telcik is the kind of voter President Erdogan has to win round if he is to secure victory in the historic vote. :: Turkish referendum: Will dictatorship follow? He supports the ruling AK party but says he will not back it in the referendum. He...

Trump Reportedly Insists On Traveling In Lavish Carriage - UK State Visit

President Donald Trump is reportedly demanding that a trip in a royal carriage be a part of his itinerary during a state visit to Britain later this year, according to U.K.’s The Times. A carriage procession from London’s Horse Guards Parade to Buckingham Palace is a normal part of the protocol for a state visit. But The Times noted President Barack Obama chose not to travel in the carriage during a 2011 visit, opting to make the trip in his armored limousine. The White House did not return a request for comment. If Trump does travel by carriage, he could likely use the lavish gold-plated Diamond Jubilee State coach , which other foreign dignitaries, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto , have used during past state v...

Despite US Warnings North Korea conducts another missile test

Pyongyang launches the missile despite warnings that Donald Trump's America will no longer tolerate the military tests. North Korea has made a failed attempt to launch a missile just hours after telling the US it was prepared for war. The launch attempt took place in the Sinpo area of the North, a day after a huge military parade took place in Pyongyang. The US military said the launch took place at 10.21pm UK time (5.51am local time) but the missile "blew up almost immediately". US officials said they are certain the missile was not an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile. They added that the missile was launched from land, rather than a ship or submarine. There had been fears of an attempted missile launch as Saturday was the 105th anniversary of the birth of the country's founder. South Korea's defence ministry said in a statement: "North Korea attempted to test an unidentified type of missile from Sinpo area in the South Hamkyong Province this ...
